Update from the Oak Meadow School Committee

posted Apr 19, 2011, 8:42 AM by Oak Meadow Administration

Below is an update from Ron Slavin, Chairperson of the Oak Meadow School Committee

Please respond back to Ron at with any questions and/or to show your support.

Over the past couple of months, the Oak Meadow school committee has been working on ways to approach the Madison School Board about the possibility of changing districts.

We collected information from many sources including the Madison and Verona school districts.  The information we gathered includes the following:

·       The district lines were drawn up in the 1950's by 2 board members and 3 farmers.  No changes have been made since then.

·       Oak Meadow will have over 90 children under the age of 6 by the end of 2012.

·       Our neighborhood can petition to detach from the Madison school district and attach to Verona School district.

I talked to the Verona superintendent and he said they would accept us.  So, our main objective would be to get Madison to let us detach.  I spoke in front of the Madison School Board this past Monday and I'm waiting to hear back from them.  If I get a no or negative response from them, I think the next step would be to go before them again next month.  But this time I would like to bring as many people from our neighborhood as possible.  We need to show them that we are very serious about this change.

I believe our children and our home values are two of the most important investments in our lives.  If we can get this change made it would be a great thing for our neighborhood and especially our kids.  I know people have busy lives and not enough time in the day, but we really need the support of the entire neighborhood to make this happen.  We’ve made a lot of progress already and want to keep moving forward with this change.  I would like to organize a neighborhood meeting as soon as possible in order to find out how many people are supportive and at what level you would be willing to help.
